영국의 신흥 명문, 워릭대학교의 졸업 후 진로는?
영국 코벤트리 지방의 워릭대학교는 이미 영국에서 신흥 명문으로 자리잡았습니다. 영국 언론의 평가가 아주 좋고, 기존의 오랜 역사를 가진 영국 대학교들과 비교해도 뛰어난 경쟁력을 보여주고 있죠. 아래 영국 대학 랭킹을 보더라도 충분히 알 수 있습니다.
예전에 영국의 명문 대학교에 취업률을 물어보기 위해 이메일을 보냈던 적이 있는데, 워릭 대학교에서 답변이 와서 그것을 소개해 드리려고 합니다. 워릭대학교, 특히 워릭 비지니스 스쿨 입학을 고려하는 분들에게는 아주 좋은 자료가 될 것 같네요.

워릭대학교는 2008년 워릭비지니스 스쿨(WBS) 졸업생(컴퓨터 공학, 법학, 수학 등과의 복수전공 포함)들을 대상으로 자체 설문조사를 했습니다. 이 조사는 모든 WBS 졸업생이 포함되었기에, 물론 비유럽 국가의 유학생도 포함되었을 거라고 사료됩니다.
먼저, WBS 졸업생들의 반수 이상(55%)이 금융계쪽으로 취업을 했더군요. 좀 더 세부적으로 나누면, 그 중 회계(53%), 은행(32%), 보험쪽(15%)으로 진로를 정했다고 합니다.
또, 졸업생의 25%는 일선 회사의 경영팀으로 들어간 것으로 집계가 되었습니다. 소매업, 제조업, 운송업, IT 컨설팅 등으로 다양한 산업별로 취업이 되었으며, 졸업생들이 많이 진출한 주요 기업으로는 바클레이스 은행, 빅4 회계법인, 네슬레, Capita, P&G 등이 있다고 하네요.
마지막으로, 남은 20%의 졸업생 중 33%는 대학원 진학을 하는 것으로 나타났고, 대부분 워릭대에 남아 공부를 계속 하거나, LSE, 캠브리지, 옥스포드대학 등지로 떠나 좀 더 깊은 공부를 한다고 하네요.

First Destinations of Undergraduate Warwick Business School students graduating in 2007/08
The following analysis incorporates survey data from all WBS undergraduate courses including the following joint degree courses: Computer & Management Science, Engineering and Business, Law and Business, Mathematics & Business, and Physics & Business. There has been a marginal decline in response rate this year from 230 to 225 respondents.
WBS graduates continue to be very successful in securing high profile job roles and places on prestigious specialist masters courses. There has been a decline from 73% to 65% of respondents securing employment but a rise from 18% to 23% in those opting for further study.
The data reveals a variety of career choices generally across the finance and management sphere. Just over half (55%) are working within the finance industry in the following sectors: accounting (53%), banking (32%) and Other Finance (e.g. actuarial, insurance and in-house) (15%). 25% of graduates are pursuing Management Trainee roles across a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, transport and FMCG. Marketing and consulting continues to be popular within certain disciplines with a particular trend towards IT Consulting. The majority of WBS graduates choose to work for large multinational employers including Barclays, the Big 4, many bulge bracket Investment Banks, Nestle, Capita, Reckitt Benckiser, Proctor & Gamble and Rolls Royce to name a few.
There is a noticeable increase in the number of students opting for further study. The main focus is on management related specialist masters programmes such as business analytics & consulting, marketing & strategy and real estate finance. 33% of students have chosen to remain at Warwick with LSE, Cambridge and Oxford emerging as favoured alternatives.
Those students choosing to take time out to travel has remained static at 4%. The latter half of 2008 saw the start of the decline in graduate employment opportunities and the percentage of WBS graduates still seeking employment six months after graduating has risen from 5% to 8%.
